04 : YUNKYUNG JEONG BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1981 in South Korea, she lives and works in London and Seoul.
In the paintings of Yunkyung Jeong, one can perceive a mix of oriental and western culture.
Her paintings combine tranquil elements from eastern tradition with architectural shapes inspired by neo-gothic buildings. The repetition of these elements is used as structure, revealing an unsuspected profusion and hidden layers. Playing with visual illusion, Yunkyung Jeong manages to create a subtle and oniric world.
She usually paints on unprimed canvas or silk.
« I create my paintings using visual elements that I have spotted through my observations of nature, while listening to an inner sense of aesthetics. Each of these small elements [...] is a representation of the energy, strong and yearning, that I have gained through my interactions with plants, an energy that wants to stretch out and blossom upward [...] these brush strokes are now like a representation of myself, of the way I look at the world »
